VSO is a development organisation that has been working
through volunteers to fight poverty for more than fifty years and we are the
leading organisation in the field. We work in almost 50 countries and we are
constantly exploring new ways to use the time, energy and skills of people to
make a difference. VSO is looking for a country director to help us continue
our work. This is your chance to play a decisive role in shaping our programme
in Indonesia.
 
We’ll look to you to lead our programme in Indonesia,
implementing and maximising the impact of VSO’s contribution to combating
poverty and disadvantage in the country during a period of change and
growth.  This will involve not only developing new relationships with
strategic partners to contribute to VSO’s goals, but also supporting our
volunteers and managing our people, as well as taking responsibility for the
financial and resource management and legal compliance.  In addition to
your strategic impact you will work to raise the profile of VSO, networking
with government agencies, donors and other international agencies, championing
our values and vision at all times.
 
An experienced senior manager, you’ll almost certainly have
prior experience of managing development or humanitarian programmes at a senior
management level successfully, and be able to use your excellent leadership,
negotiation and relationship building skills to implement VSO's new strategy
and development initiatives. Your experience of project-management will be key
to your success in planning, resourcing and implementing our innovative
programme. Experience securing external funding and contracts is essential.
 
The role will require substantial travel within
Indonesia.  As well as a competitive salary, the package includes

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK)seeks nominations and applications for a strategic, seasoned, and politically astute Country Director to lead CTFK's efforts to promote strong tobacco control legislation and implementation in Indonesia. CTFK is a leading civil society organization dedicated to the fight to reduce tobacco use and its deadly toll in the United States and around the world. Qualified
candidates will understand and have proven experience promoting policy change and will be a strategic partner to grantees, partners, and funders in preventing the devastating health impacts of tobacco use.

The Country Director will act as the coordinator for CTFK’s activities in Indonesia, managing CTFK’s Jakarta-based staff and programs and serving as the primary liaison with Indonesian civil society organizations and networks. S/he will lead efforts todevelop a comprehensive strategy at the national and subnational level to support the adoption and implementation of effective tobacco control policies consistent with the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) in Indonesiain partnership with
Indonesian tobacco control advocates. The new Country Director will coordinate legal, media, research, and grant activities in Indonesia, collaborating with CTFK staff, NGOs, stakeholders, and partners in the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use. The Country Director will report to and work closely with the Director of Indonesia Programs in Washington, DC to develop annual and long-term strategic plans. This position is based in Jakarta, Indonesia and open to citizens of Indonesia.
 
About the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids
By changing public attitudes and public policies on tobacco, the Campaign works to prevent children from smoking, to help smokers quit, and to protect everyone from secondhand smoke. Established in 1996, the Campaign envisions a world free from the death and disease caused by tobacco. The Campaign promotes public policies that have been proven to reduce tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke, including higher tobacco taxes, comprehensive smoke-free laws,strict bans on tobaccoadvertising, promotion and sponsorship, and graphic warning labels on tobacco products. Internationally, as a partner in the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use, CTFK supports governments and non-governmental organizations in promoting and implementing these policies in low- and middle-income countries where more than 80 percent of tobacco-related deaths will occur in the coming decades.

The Ideal Candidate
The new Country Director will be a strategic thinker and effective manager who can balance the broader program goals with the day to day coordination, program execution, and collaboration. S/he will have deep knowledge of Indonesian political systems, processes, and players as well as the opportunities and
challenges of advancing policy change at the national and regional level.S/he will be a strategic and analytical thinker who partners effectively with grantees and stakeholders on the ground and has the gravitas and personal agility to navigate a complex policy making process. High level of proficiency in spoken and written Bahasa Indonesia and English is required.
