TERRESTRIAL PROGRAM DIRECTOR

The Terrestrial Program Director is a senior level position that has strong management responsibilities for the CI Indonesia portfolio of conservation and development programs encompassing biodiversity, forestry, climate change, and green economic development. The Director leads science based strategic planning, policy engagement with government counterparts, as well as program implementation of policy objectives and partnerships. The Director leads and oversees national level policy work related to climate change mitigation and adaptation in forest and biodiversity conservation management. S/he contributes to the development and application of various conservation finance tools in specific local contexts. The Director will also play an important role in assisting fundraising and sustainability strategy for CI-Indonesia and partners within the CI Indonesia-Pacific Field Division. 

Requirements: 
- Master's Degree in Natural Resources policy, science, conservation, management, economics, or similar qualification.
- At least 10 years forest and biodiversity conservation experience, managing and implementing programs in key biodiversity areas throughout Indonesia. 
- Experience developing medium/long term and program strategies and managing partnerships with multiple stakeholders in rural areas.
- Experience implementing community-based conservation programs and ensuring their sustainability beyond project life. 
- Broad and current knowledge of climate science, and mitigation, vulnerability and adaptation strategies for communities and resilience of tropical ecosystems. 
- Strong capability to analyze development path scenarios. 
- Strong network with NGOs, donors, and government is preferable.
- Strong bilingual skills (written English/Indonesian).

TERRESTRIAL PROGRAM DIRECTOR

The Terrestrial Program Director is a senior level position that has strong management responsibilities for the CI Indonesia portfolio of conservation and development programs encompassing biodiversity, forestry, climate change, and green economic development. The Director leads science based strategic planning, policy engagement with government counterparts, as well as program implementation of policy objectives and partnerships. The Director leads and oversees national level policy work related to climate change mitigation and adaptation in forest and biodiversity conservation management. S/he contributes to the development and application of various conservation finance tools in specific local contexts. The Director also advises on and implements CI's terrestrial program strategies such as the policy components of the Sustainable Landscapes Partnership program (SLP). The Director also plays an important role in assisting fundraising and sustainability strategies for CI-Indonesia and partners within the CI Asia Pacific Field Division. 

Responsibilities:
1.Project Development, Implementation and Monitoring. Provide policy and management support to existing forest, biodiversity and climate change project managers within the region. Monitor overall terrestrial program and project progress and ensure that project results, performance targets, and deliverables, including written reports, meet CI and project donor quality standards and expectations and that projects are progressing on schedule. 
2.Policy Development. Lead, manage, and implement policy engagement activities for the SLP program in coordination with the SLP team and national government and other relevant counterparts. Coordinate policy strategy and engagement for other terrestrial conservation and development programs. 
3.Regional Strategy Development. Lead and manage CI-I strategic planning for regional landscape conservation and development over the medium and long term, beginning with the north Sumatra and Aceh region. Lead and manage development of an integrated, cohesive and compelling big picture strategy and vision to guide project level development at landscape and smaller scales and ensure mutually reinforcing components among different conservation initiatives as well as encourage and engage partnerships to achieve the larger vision. 
4.Capacity Building and Partnership. Facilitate and train CI-I program managers and senior staff in Java, Sumatra and Papua in key and emerging policy issues and in development and maintainance of transparent advisory partnerships with governments and relations with local private sector and civil society partners on aspects related to climate change initiatives, forest and biodiversity conservation, and sustainable economic development pathways.
5.Assist in coordinating multidisciplinary and team approach to implementing terrestrial programs with climate change, improved livelihoods, private sector engagement, and biodiversity conservation components. Communicate climate change program outcomes and implementation, evaluation, and adjustment needs and support CI-I terrestrial program Senior Management Team (SMT) and their direct reports and provide leadership needed to work together as a team to achieve them. 
6.Assist in fundraising, strategic planning, partnerships, liaison with other agencies and partners. Periodically review available literature and other sources of information, including global and region specific materials, and keep CI-I offices informed of trends and issues related to climate change in the region/sub-region.

Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Natural Resources policy, science, conservation, management, economics, or similar qualification.
- At least 10 years forest and biodiversity conservation experience, managing and implementing programs in key biodiversity areas throughout Indonesia. Experience developing medium/long term and program strategies and managing partnerships with multiple stakeholders in rural areas. Experience implementing community-based conservation programs and ensuring their sustainability beyond project life, Research throughout Indonesia's 3 bio-geographical regions is an advantage.
- Experience with climate change policy and action plans at national, provincial and regency levels. Broad and current knowledge of climate science, and mitigation, vulnerability and adaptation strategies for communities and resilience of tropical ecosystems. 
- Demonstrated experience with developing and utilizing conservation finance tools, including REDD-Plus, Payment for Environmental Services, and others. 
- Strong capability to analyze development path scenarios 
- Extensive networking experience with like-minded organizations, donors, central, provincial, and regency government agencies. Demonstrated experience in alliance building and institutional networking.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in Bahasa Indonesia and English
