Purpose: The United Methodist Committee on Relief,
Non-Governmental Organization (UMCOR-NGO) (www.umcor-ngo. org)
is a not-for-profit organization that provides transitional development and
relief assistance to communities in need around the world. UMCOR-NGO’s
Indonesia Field Mission (UMCOR-Indonesia) is seeking an Engineer to assist in
the implementation of projects involving construction of community infrastructure
projects and rehabilitation and construction of housing located in Banda Aceh
and Aceh Besar sub-districts with an expected start date of August 10,
2009.

overview of job missioGENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
The Engineer is responsible for ensuring quality
construction at all of our UMCOR sites. He/She
will do this by visiting all sites regularly, ensuring that all contractors and
project supervisors adhere to construction techniques and specifications
outlined and specified in the BOQ. He/She will implement and follow UMCOR
quality assurance/control measures and ensure that these quality control
measures are rigidly adhered to by contractors and project managers. This
position will also include some direct onsite training of contractors and community
builders to ensure a high standard of construction quality and additional competence
in quality control.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
» Overall responsibility for the quality of
construction.
» Coordinate closely with the Senior
Engineer/Constructi on Manager, construction team, engineers and project
supervisors.
» Daily field visits
» Implement and assure quality assurance/control
measures
» Ensure contractors and community laborers are
completing work according to the specifications provided by UMCOR
» Train contractor/communit y labor in speciality
construction items if needed.
» Regularly monitor construction material quality and
reject poor quality material
» Work with project supervisors and
contractors/ community laborers to ensure projects are finished according to
engineering time schedule
» Conduct
himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring
credit to UMCOR and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
» Other duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITY:
» Senior Engineer/Constructi on Manager and Field Coordinator Banda Aceh
office

REPORTS DIRECTLY TO:
» Senior Engineer/Constructi on Manager.

WORKS DIRECTLY WITH:
» Engineering Staff, Laborers, Contractors

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
» 5-10 years of construction supervision experience
» Experience creating and implementing quality assurance methods
» Bahasa Indonesian and English required. Acehnese language experience
desired.

SUCCESS FACTORS:
» We are looking for an active individual, who will work in the field on
construction sites all day and will work construction hours, not office
hours. We would like someone who has
strong construction supervisory and communication skills, who can communicate
with both local communities and contractors.
