JAKARTA
Program Summary:
According to the Indonesian Bureau of Statistics, there are approximately 52 million micro businesses employing over 96 million people from a total workforce of 108 million across the nation. These micro businesses contribute approximately USD350 billion of economic activity amounting to 55.6% of the total GDP of the country. From the total number of Indonesian Enterprises, 60% are owned or operated by women (IFC, 2011). However, women entrepreneurs in Indonesia still face barriers due to the social structure and a lack of access to basic assets, information and financial services.

Mercy Corps will help women in Indonesia overcome some of the challenges they face in business through providing access to mobile value added services (MVAS) for women entrepreneurs. This will empower women to be more successful entrepreneurs giving them the essential skills they need to improve and grow their business. The MVAS will be designed and content in Bahasa Indonesia and developed in relevant topics including financial literacy, financial access, and business management. The MVAS system
will be complemented with an awareness and education campaign so that women entrepreneurs access the MVAS service and apply the information, tips and advice in their day to day business.
